The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center joined NBC/Telemundo’s nationwide “Clear the Shelters” adoption event today, reducing adoption fees for all animals by 50% from today (Aug. 23) through Sept. 19.
In addition, the fee will be completely waived for any animal that has been at the shelter for more than 30 days.
Summer months are typically busy times for shelters, but can be slow for adoptions. Right now, MCASAC has 100 animals available including dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs and others, with additional animals becoming available each week, according to a press release.
Adoption fees vary by type of animal and typically run from $5–$150. The pets that are available can be seen online; animals with waived fees will be labeled as “Hidden Gems” both online and in the shelter.
All potential adopters should review the pre-adoption checklist prior to visiting or submitting a questionnaire online. Submitting a questionnaire does not reserve an animal for adoption and adoptions are first come, first served.
Guidelines and the questionnaire are available online.
The shelter is open from noon–7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and noon–5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It is closed to the public on Wednesdays.
