COVID-19 vaccine booster shots are now available in the county for those who are 65 or older and got two doses of the Pfizer vaccine, and certain other groups, county officials announced.
The move follows an announcement of approval for boosters by the Centers for Disease Control.
In addition to the older Pfizer recipients of two vaccines at least six months ago, those eligible include:
- Residents age 18 and older with underlying medical conditions, and
- Residents aged 18–64 years at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure because of their jobs.
In both cases, the boosters are for Pfizer vaccine recipients only.
In addition, those residents with compromised immune systems and got their second dose at least 28 days ago are eligible for either a Pfizer or Moderna booster vaccine.
“We need to continue to urge everyone eligible to get vaccinated, as well as continue doing everything we can to protect the community,” James Bridgers, Ph.D., acting health officer, said in a press release. “An additional dose for those who are eligible helps provide the best protection against severe illness and hospitalization.”
Appointments for booster vaccinations are now available at pharmacies, some private providers and county-sponsored clinics. Recipients must bring their vaccination cards and identification to the appointment.
