The county’s Department of Health and Human Services is offering COVID-19 booster vaccines to an expanded group of eligible residents, County Executive Marc Elrich announced.
“Expanded eligibility for boosters is good news for all of us as we approach the holiday season and the winter months,” Elrich said in a press release. “We have plenty of vaccine for adults, and there are numerous places throughout the community where residents can get vaccinated. This booster will provide residents with an extra layer of protection and help to slow down the spread of the virus.”
The action is in line with the Nov. 19 announcement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declaring additional eligibility for qualifying groups.
Those now eligible for booster include:
- Anyone 18 and older who received the Johnson & Johnson one-dose vaccine, at least two months after the single dose, or
- Anyone 18 and older who received the Moderna or Pfizer two-dose vaccine at least six months after the second dose.
Those eligible for booster doses can get vaccinated at pharmacies, through private providers, or at county-operated and other health care clinics. Anyone who would like a specific vaccine should check with the vaccination site before making an appointment to ensure availability.
Residents can make an appointment online for county-operated clinics, or may call the COVID-19 call center at 240.777.2982, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for assistance.
