Forest Glen Resident Appointed Vice Chair of Planning Board

Planning Board Chair Casey Anderson announced at last week’s board meeting that Commissioner Partap Verma, a Forest Glen resident, had been appointed vice chair of the Planning Board.

“Partap has provided valuable guidance as a Planning Board member over the last three years and now in his role as vice chair, his leadership will allow us to continue to work to advance the goals of reaching community equity, environmental resilience and economic competitiveness,” Anderson said in a press release.

Verma fills a post left vacant when Natali Fani-Gonzalez resigned from the board to run for County Council in the new District 6.

The County Council appointed Verma to the board in June 2019.

Since the, he has worked on the Forest Glen/Montgomery Hills Sector Plan, Silver Spring Downtown and Adjacent Communities Plan, Thrive Montgomery 2050, Corridor Forward, and the update to the growth and infrastructure policy, among other issues and policies. He also has supported many significant park projects and plans, according to the release.

“I am honored to assume the role of vice chair of the Planning Board,” said Verma. “We have been making progress, but we still have important work ahead of us related to welcoming underserved residents into the planning process, strengthening our economic health in the region and pursuing environmentally friendly policies.”

As vice chair, Verma would assume the chair’s leadership role when absent, overseeing board meetings and decisions.
