Metro Announces Elimination of $2 SmarTrip Card Fee for Seniors

Starting January 16, Metro will offer complimentary Senior SmarTrip cards to customers aged 65 and above.

Metro’s Board of Directors approved the elimination of the $2 fee for Senior SmarTrip cards last December. According to a Metro press release, the aim is to increase affordability for seniors and remove a barrier to participation for social service agencies and organizations that distribute the cards.

In Montgomery County, individuals can get Senior SmarTrip cards by showing proof of age at any county library branch, TRiPS commuter stores, and the County Treasury office in Rockville.
