The county’s Department of Transportation invites elementary schools across the region to participate in “Bike and Roll to School Day” on Wednesday, May 8th.
According to a press release, the annual national event brings participants joy through active commuting and significantly contributes to our community by promoting safe biking and walking to schools. The campaign is a collective effort to enhance pedestrian safety, encourage physical activity, and address environmental concerns.
This annual event celebrates #BikeMonth by encouraging students to #biketoschool.
Schools🏤can participate in the campaign by raising awareness of traffic rules and elevating neighborhood awareness to share the road with cyclists🚴♂️

The first Walk and Roll to School event was organized in 2016 when The National Center For Safe Routes to School launched the Vision Zero for Youth initiative, which included Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day events.
Each year, the MCDOT Safe Routes to School team selects one elementary school in the County to promote the event and raise awareness about pedestrian safety.
“MCDOT encourages all elementary schools in Montgomery County, with the support of students, parents and the community, to participate and help kids choose a safe route to bike and roll to their home school,” MCDOT said.
