Heat Wave Alert: Montgomery Parks Closing Outdoor Facilities This Weekend

Montgomery Parks will temporarily close several outdoor amenities due to this weekend’s dangerous heat wave forecast.

The following activities will be suspended on Saturday and Sunday:

  • Boating at Black Hill Regional Park and Rock Creek Regional Park;
  • The driving range at South Germantown Recreational Park (golf classes will be rescheduled);
  • Archery classes at South Germantown Recreational Park (will be rescheduled);
  • The miniature trains at Cabin John and Wheaton Regional Parks; and
  • The carousel at Wheaton Regional Park (birthday parties scheduled for train rides are an exception).

Additionally, all outdoor activities organized by Montgomery County Recreation have been canceled, as well as indoor activities held at Montgomery County Public School facilities. Aquatic programming at outdoor pools will proceed as planned this weekend, although pools are expected to reach full capacity.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore declared a State of Preparedness yesterday due to the forecasted high temperatures expected this weekend and next week.
