Councilmembers Kate Stewart and Will Jawando have been elected President and Vice President of the Montgomery County Council, respectively.
Stewart represents District 4, which includes Takoma Park, where she previously served as Mayor, along with Silver Spring, North Bethesda, Garrett Park, Kensington, Montgomery Hills, and parts of Chevy Chase. She chairs the Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee and the Audit Committee and is also a member of the Council’s Transportation and Environment Committee.
Jawando is an At-Large Member for all of Montgomery County, serving as Chair of the Education & Culture Committee and also serves on the Planning, Housing, and Parks Committee.
“This Council understands that we are bigger than one person alone,” Stewart said in a press release issued Tuesday. “We are stronger when we put our heads together, roll up our sleeves and work to support the common good.”
“It is an incredible honor to have the trust and support of my colleagues in this new leadership role,” Jawando said. “I am committed to working collaboratively to ensure we are supporting our schools, protecting our residents, and upholding the values that make Montgomery County a welcoming community for all.”
Stewart and Jawando will serve one-year terms as Council officers.
