Canceled Services and Adjusted Schedules During Montgomery County Snow Emergency

Montgomery County has declared a Snow Emergency, closing all facilities including schools, courts, libraries, and recreation centers.

Trash and recycling collections scheduled for Monday are canceled. A sliding schedule will be followed, with the last collection on Saturday, January 11.

Ride On buses will operate on a holiday schedule, and Metro has activated a Severe Snow Plan with 42 Metrobus routes running due to icy conditions and impassable roads. Metrorail is running its regular schedule, but riders are advised to stay home and travel only if necessary.

Takoma Park city offices and facilities are currently closed. The city’s Monday yard waste collection program is canceled, and collection will resume on Monday, January 13.

Federal offices in the D.C. area are closed, with maximum telework in effect. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore declared a State of Preparedness on Saturday (and later, a State of Emergency) ahead of the winter storm’s arrival late Sunday night.

During a Snow Emergency, parking is not allowed on Montgomery County roads designated as “Snow Emergency Routes” and in county-operated parking lots marked as “Snow Emergency Lots.” Drivers are required to park their vehicles in a driveway or garage. If street parking is unavoidable, park on the odd-numbered side on Monday, January 6. If the snow emergency continues, switch to the even-numbered side on Tuesday, January 7.

Cul-de-sacs must be as clear as possible to allow snowplows to turn around. Cars should not park at the center of the cul-de-sac.

Parking fees for county-operated garages will be waived during a declared snow emergency. Residents are encouraged to use these garages for off-street parking.
