Thayer-Spring Public Parking Garage Now Open

The county’s Thayer-Spring public parking garage opened this morning in Fenton Village.

Also known as Garage #3, the below-grade facility is located at 913 Silver Spring Ave., under the new Thayer&Spring apartment development.

The garage includes 115 long-term parking spaces, 40 short-term (under four hours) spaces, six ADA-compliant spaces, eight spaces for motorcycles and 28 for bicycles.

The cost is $.70 per hour and payment is required from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., though the facility is open 24/7; a vehicle cannot be parked in the garage more than 14 days in a row.

There are four pay stations near the entrances where customers enter their space number and the amount of time they wish to purchase. Pay by cell phone is not yet available for this facility.

The garage entrance is located on an upgraded Mayor Lane between Silver Spring and Thayer avenues. There is a separate parking entrance on Silver Spring Avenue for apartment residents and their visitors.

The new garage takes the place of a surface lot that closed for construction Sept. 30, 2016. The facility was expected to open in mid-September of last year, but was delayed for various reasons, including heavy rains in the fall that damaged an elevator mechanical room.
