Montgomery County once again is offering grants, this year ranging from $2,000 to $10,000, to community organizations working with food security issues, according to a press release.
The grants are intended to assist organizations to improve capacity and infrastructure, or “to support inventive and collaborative approaches to reducing food insecurity.”
Nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations can also use the grants for assistance to the populations they serve, including preparing meals, distribution and delivery, or recovering food that would otherwise be wasted.
In addition, grants may be used to expand storage systems through purchases of goods and services such as trucks or freezers, conducting staff development, hiring additional staff, engaging professional consultants or partnering and sharing resources with other groups.
Organizations may apply for the funds, which are part of the Department of Health and Human Services’ FY20 budget, individually or in collaboration with other groups. Community Food Rescue, a program of Manna Food Center, will be distributing the grants.
Applications, which can be completed online, are due by the close of business on Tuesday, Sept. 3. A pre-application technical assistance conference will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at 401 Hungerford Dr. in Rockville.
