Takoma Park Fourth to Feature “Parade” of Homes and Businesses

The Takoma Park Independence Day Committee announced that this year’s celebration will be a different sort of parade—a parade of local homes and businesses. The traditional parade has been cancelled again this year due to COVID-19 and in its place, the committee is asking homeowners and businesses to turn their properties into “floats” to show their Takoma Park Independence Day spirit.

Owners Announce UP is Suspending Operations

The husband and wife team who owns and operates UP – Healing, Wellness, Adventure announced on Facebook that they were suspending operations. Dave Giacomin and Erin McNamara said they had lost their lease on the studio space on the second floor of 8083 Georgia Ave., largely due to pandemic-related restrictions and the economic slowdown.

Senate Confirms Silver Spring Judge for U.S. District Court of Maryland Seat

The U.S. Senate last week confirmed U.S. Court of Federal Claims Judge Lydia Griggsby to be a U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Maryland. Judge Griggsby, who was confirmed by a 59-39 vote and lives in Silver Spring, will be the first Black woman and first woman of color to serve as a federal district court judge in Maryland.
