Parks to Ask for Extension of Directive Allowing Alcohol in Certain Parks

The county’s Planning Board will be asked to renew the Temporary Suspension of Alcohol Prohibition in Designated Parks at the commission’s Thursday, May 27 meeting, according to a press release from Montgomery Parks. The temporary directive was part of a pilot program enacted on Sept. 24, 2020, which suspended the prohibition of alcohol in nine Montgomery Parks, which is set to expire May 31.

F45 Training Fitness Studio to Open on Georgia Avenue

An F45 Training fitness studio will open on the ground floor of Solaire 8250 on Georgia Avenue later this year, according to the company’s website. The company focuses on offering group workouts that primarily consist of high-intensity interval training, circuit training, and functional training.

Library Holds to Go Service to End Tomorrow at Silver Spring, Five Other Branches

The county library system’s Holds to Go service will end tomorrow (May 22) at the six libraries scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, June 1, including Silver Spring, officials announced. In addition to Silver Spring, the other five branches where the service will end are Rockville, Gaithersburg, Olney, Marilyn J. Praisner and Connie Morella.  

Work Begins on Ellsworth Drive Large-Scale Mural

Work has begun on a 350-foot-long large-scale street mural on the pedestrian-only portion of Ellsworth Drive in the Downtown Silver Spring development. Chalk Riot, a Washington-based public arts production company that specializes in pavement art and interactive murals, some using augmented reality, is creating the work.
