The Silver Spring Ice Skating Rink at Veterans Plaza has reopened for the winter season — with some changes, according to a post on the facility’s Instagram account.

Man Killed Friday in South Four Corners House Fire
One person was killed in a house fire last night in the 10000 block of Lorain Avenue in South Four Corners, according to Pete Piringer, public information officer for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. At about 9:25 p.m. on Nov. 20, approximately 85 firefighters responded to multiple calls to find “heavy fire conditions in a single-family house,” Piringer said in a recorded message for the media.
Report: Thompson Hospitality Acquires Matchbox in Bankruptcy Deal
Thompson Hospitality, a Reston, Virginia-based retail and facilities and management company, has acquired Matchbox Food Group, LLC as the casual-dining chain emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to a report from Restaurant-Hospitality.com.

County Offering Grants up to $1,000 for Neighborhood Events
Montgomery County will again offer matching grants of up to $1,000 to help fund neighborhood events, according to an announcement from Silver Spring Regional Services Center Director Reemberto Rodriguez. Neighborhood organizations, block groups, tenant groups, civic groups and similar organizations are eligible to apply to help fund events and activities that “promote community engagement, encourage capacity building, networking and stimulate the local economy,” according to the message.
Police Investigating Armed Robbery of Hillandale Metro by T-Mobile Store; Video Released
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department’s Major Crimes Division that are investigating a November 12 armed robbery of a Hillandale Metro by T-Mobile store have released surveillance video of the incident, and are asking anyone with information about this robbery or suspect to come forward to the MCPD.
MCEDC to Offer Restaurant Relief Grants
Restaurants and other entities like food trucks, caterers, and wineries and breweries in Montgomery County that directly provide food service can apply for grants up to $10,000, under the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation’s new Restaurant Relief Grant program.
AAHP EC Offering COVID-19 Testing Program Targeting African Americans
The African American Health Program Executive Committee recently launched a free COVID-19 testing program targeting the county’s African American residents, the committee announced. The targeted COVID-19 response program, with the tagline “Don’t Stress. Take the Test.” is offered a various drive-through locations around the county and also includes need-based wellness services.
