The Planning Board yesterday declined to place a building at 900 Spring St. on the Locational Atlas and List of Historic Sites. The 5-0 vote rejected a staff recommendation to list the former headquarters of the National Sand & Gravel Association and National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, which opened in 1964.
Detectives with the 3rd District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s help to identify six suspects in an assault and robbery of two female juveniles inside Ellsworth Place. The incident took place in mid-afternoon on Oct. 2, when a 16-year old and a 17-year-old were inside a fourth-floor mall restroom and were confronted by the six suspects.

Loyalty Bookstores will again open a holiday pop-up store in downtown Silver Spring, founder Hannah Olive Depp and her business partner, Gene Taft, announced today. The outlet will open Saturday, Oct. 12 at 823 Ellsworth Dr. in the former location of Color Me Mine.
The Woodside Deli, an institution and neighborhood favorite at 9329 Georgia Ave., has permanently closed, according to various reports and Google. A second location is Rockville is still operating, and a staff member told the Source they would be moving the Silver Spring employees to the Rockville location.
County officials dedicated the mid-Atlantic’s first “protected” intersection this morning at Spring and Second streets, marking the completion of a circuit of bike lanes around downtown Silver Spring. The “cycletrack” runs along Spring/Cedar streets, down Wayne Avenue and alongside Second Street, providing a direct connection to the Silver Spring Transit Center.
The Source of the Spring is marking its third anniversary with the launch of a membership program designed to help ensure its finances are stable and the site can continue to operate in the future. Clothing retailer Forever 21 Red in Ellsworth Place is on a list of stores that could close following the Sunday bankruptcy filing of parent company Forever 21. The store opened in September 2016 as the first of that concept to operate in Maryland.
