The county cancelled its Late-Night Alcohol Sales Program as of yesterday at 5 p.m., officials announced. The program was launched in October and allowed restaurants to apply for a permit to sell and serve alcohol after 10 p.m. if they had not been cited or closed during the previous 60 days.

Society Restaurant and Lounge at 8229 Georgia Ave. was declared an “unsafe facility” and a closure order issued on Sept. 29 by Dr. Travis Gayles, the county’s health officer. Montgomery Parks has joined with Visit Montgomery, the county’s tourism and destination marketing organization, to launch “Picnic in the Park,” a program to promote both local parks and area restaurants. The initiative launched in nine county parks to make it easy for park visitors to find nearby restaurants offering takeout and delivery.
Spice Street, a restaurant promising “innovative Indian cuisine,” has begun hiring in anticipation of opening in the first half of October, according to owner Navjot Singh. The restaurant will focus on a smaller staff to start, due to the COVID-19 restrictions, but Singh expects the number will grow later. The full menu is still under development, he said.
Mandalay Restaurant and Café will continue operating at 930 Bonifant St. until mid-2021, according to an email to the Source from manager Joe Myint. In December of last year, the Myints announced their intention to move in August 2020 to a location in Washington D.C. near the former Walter Reed complex at 7302 Georgia Ave. N.W.
