One of Silver Spring’s major downtown office tenants will remain in its Georgia Avenue location despite being purchased earlier this year.
Social & Scientific Systems, Inc. has renewed and extended its long-term lease at Washington Property Company’s Silver Spring Plaza building, according to an announcement by WPC.
SSS, a public health research company, was purchased in June for $70 million by DLH Holdings Corporation of Atlanta.
SSS now operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Atlanta company. The renewed lease is for 66,078 square feet for an 11-year term at 8757 Georgia Ave.
“This is a meaningful transaction, especially in the wake of The Discovery Channel’s recent move from its 550,000 square foot headquarters in Silver Spring to New York,” said WPC Vice President Joshua Gurland in a press release. “The merger of Social & Scientific Systems with DHL could have taken them anywhere in Montgomery County.”
WPC purchased the building in 1998. It is a 14-story, 242,000 SF multi-tenant office building that also includes tenants Conflulytics, GEICO, the National Children’s Center, LifeMatters, and Catholic Legal Immigration Network.
