The Silver Spring Main Post Office will cease operations at 900 Wayne Ave. this weekend as it moves to its new permanent home on Thayer Avenue, according to a USPS press release.
The post office will open at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 13 at 940 Thayer Ave., Suite 100.
The initial release listed an erroneous address for the new location, said Michael Hotovy, a communications specialist with the USPS.
The new location is on the ground floor of the Thayer & Spring Apartments, next to the Thayer Avenue entrance. Parking will be available on the street or in the Thayer-Spring public parking garage beneath the apartments.
Customers will not be able to get any retail services or access post office boxes at the location in the Silver Spring library on Saturday, Jan. 11.
Post office box customers will be able to pick up their mail at the library location until 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, and then again at the new location beginning on Monday.
Arts on the Block, a Silver Spring nonprofit group temporarily located in the Metropolitan Building at 8720 Georgia Ave., will take over the library space vacated by the post office.
The group expects to open in its new location in about four months, according to an announcement on its website.
