El Sapo Owner Corrects the Record

The company behind El Sapo Cuban Social Club filed a counter claim against an area design-build firm in a contract dispute, according to court documents.

8455CSC LLC, whose managing partner is chef Raynold Mendizábal, is claiming about $400,000 in costs related to the build out of the restaurant by Virginia-based JSV LLC.

CSC had an agreement to pay the builder on a cost-plus basis, covering the actual cost of the work plus an amount for overhead and profit.

The counter claim filed in November says CSC overpaid by more than $286,000. In addition, the claim seeks almost $114,000 to cover necessary repairs of work JSV failed to properly perform.

“EL SAPO is stronger than ever and thriving, so that we just announced the coming soon of EL SAPO DC,” said Mendizábal in a message to the Source.
