Post Office Move Now Set for Presidents Day Weekend

The Silver Spring Post Office’s move to a permanent location, postponed in January, is now scheduled to take place on Presidents Day weekend, Feb. 15–17, according to a press release.

The post office has been in a temporary location on the first floor of the Silver Spring Library at 900 Wayne Ave. The new location will be 940 Thayer Ave., Suite 100 on the ground floor of Thayer & Spring Apartments.

The relocation will mean there will be no retail services on Saturday, Feb. 15. Post Office Box customers will be able to pick up their mail at the Wayne Avenue location through 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14.

The office will be closed on Monday, Feb. 17 in observance of the federal holiday. The new location will open at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Parking will be available on the street or in the Thayer-Spring public parking garage beneath the apartments.

Arts on the Block, a Silver Spring nonprofit group temporarily located in the Metropolitan Building at 8720 Georgia Ave., will take over the library space vacated by the post office.

The group expects to open in its new location in about four months, according to an announcement on its website.
