Colesville Road (U.S. Route 29) will be resurfaced and have additional improvements installed from St. Andrews Way/Sligo Creek Parkway to just past Stewart Lane, according to an announcement from the State Highway Administration.
The work, which is scheduled to begin this spring, will repair a surface marred by a WSSC water main project between St. Andrews and the Beltway. The project will continue north past the Shoppes of Burnt Mills, a total of about 3.6 miles.
The state will mill, repave and restripe the roadway, as well as interchange ramps.
The work also will include:
- Cleaning existing inlets and storm drain pipes
- Repairing concrete curb and gutter and concrete median
- Reconstructing driveway aprons (existing curb return on driveways only) to meet ADA requirements
- Upgrading pedestrian ramps and bus stops within the project limit, and
- Installing new signs and pavement markings, among other upgrades.
In addition, the state will make improvements to the traffic signals at St. Andrews Way and Prelude Drive.
Drivers can expect to see lane closures in both directions of one lane (weekdays from 9 a.m.–3 p.m.), two lanes (overnight from 9 p.m.–5 a.m.) and one or two lanes intermittently on weekends, the announcement said.
The $5.7 million project should be finished by the end of 2021.
