Residents in the area near the construction of the Plymouth Street tunnel from Wayne Avenue to Arliss Street can expect blasting to begin next week, according to a notice from the Purple Line Transit Partners.

“Rock conditions vary in the tunnel area and the team strives to control blasting to only when needed,” the notice said. The company expects the excavation work to take about nine months.

In addition, crews with heavy equipment will be working in the area on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through August.

Crews also will be working the same Saturday hours at the Lyttonsville Bridge site, and expect to begin pile driving for the new bridge on or about Aug. 6 between 7 a.m.-5 p.m.

In the meantime, construction continues for new parking lots at Silver Spring International Middle School.
