If you don’t want to cook for Thanksgiving, downtown Silver Spring food truck Money Muscle BBQ has customizable dinners on its menu this year.
According to a press release, the $150 meals will give guests the choice of either Smoked Turkey, Oven Roasted Ham or Prime Rib as their main entrée as well as the option of Chef Ed Reavis’ Skillet Cornbread or Parkerhouse Rolls. Each dinner for four will be accompanied by a wide selection of sides such as Mashed Potatoes, Garlic String Beans, and Brioche Stuffing in addition to guest’s choice of Sweet Potato Pie, Chocolate Chip Cookies, or Junior’s NY Cheesecake for dessert. The truck will additionally offer a menu of a la carte breads, salads & sides, main entrees, and dessert for individual purchase.
All orders must be placed either via phone or online by Sunday, November 22 for pick-up between the hours of 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25. Customers are encouraged to consider placing a donation to their charitable partner, GOODProjects DC, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending poverty for 500 families in Southwest Washington, D.C. Donations made to GOODProjects DC will fund workforce development, job placement, and youth education, and all donations up to $1,500 will be matched by Money Muscle BBQ.
As previously reported, All Set Restaurant & Bar owners Ed Reavis and Jennifer Meltzer debuted their Money Muscle BBQ food truck in September. According to Eater DC, they invested $5,000 in a smoker and had been preparing for the launch over the last few months, but the COVID-19 pandemic made them pivot to offering takeout and delivery:
Investing more than $5,000 in a smoker shows that Reavis and Jennifer Meltzer, the managing partner and the chef’s wife, are serious about barbecue as a business. The COVID-19 pandemic made them realize the importance of takeout and delivery. That meant reconfiguring a restaurant known for oysters on the half shell and lobster rolls. Reavis was drawn to the power of pulled pork shoulder. He grew up in Emporia, Virginia, just across the state line from North Carolina. He remembers attending the annual Virginia Pork Festival, how visitors would pour in from all over the country to tuck into barbecue on some of the hottest days of the year.
Money Muscle BBQ is also participating in the third annual DMV Black Restaurant Week, which started Sunday, November 8th, and is running through Sunday, November 15th.
