Bump ‘N Grind, the Silver Spring-based coffee and vinyl record shop, is planning to open a permanent kiosk this fall in Ellsworth Place.

“Ellsworth Place approached us and asked us if we’d be interested in expanding,” said owner David Fogel, adding that it would be located on the first floor, near Michael’s and a recently installed seating area.

The kiosk, which will be about 150-200 square feet, will include work from local artists and is currently being built offsite, he said.

“We’re really excited about it,” Fogel said. “I’ve put in a lot of time and have a lot of love for Silver Spring, and it’s come back for us at the shop.

“We’re excited and proud to be able to make access to our product a little bit easier to people in other parts of Silver Spring,” he added.

Customers will be find coffees (which Bump ‘N Grind roasts offsite), espresso drinks, teas, juices, smoothies, an assortment of baked goods, and items to appeal to small children, who frequent a play area near the kiosk’s location, he said.

“The different thing on the food menu at the kiosk will be gourmet hot dogs,” Fogel said.

“We were taking stock of what’s offered both in the mall and in the surrounding area,” he continued. “We also spent a bunch of time just hanging out and looking at who’s there. As part of that process, we came to the concept of hot dogs.”

Fogel said they’re hoping for a September opening, depending on the permitting and inspection process, among other factors.

In the meantime, the original location at 1200 East-West Highway will continue to operate as usual.

“There’s always new stuff happening there,” he said. “New menu items, different events every week as well as some neighborhood favorites that return on a monthly basis, new records, new coffee flavors to try . . . it’s not going anywhere.

“We’re also open to a bunch of ideas,” Fogel said, “and if anybody wants to get in touch with me and the shop about things they’d like to see happen or things they’d like to do, I’m available.”
