Trio Applies for License to Open Restaurant/Bar in Former Jackie’s Location

A partnership of three individuals have applied for a liquor license to operate Shalla Restaurant and Bar at 8081 Georgia Ave., the former location of Balagger Lounge and, prior to that, Jackie’s Restaurant.

The principals of Triple Brothers LLC are Belete Weletaw, Mekonnen Eshete, both of Washington, D.C., and Temesgen Gebeyehu, who lives in the Hillandale neighborhood of Silver Spring.

The three are listed as the operators and are seeking a Class B Beer, Wine and Liquor license to permit onsite sales at a cost of $2,500.

The permit will allow sales between 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. the next day on Sunday–Thursday, and until 3 a.m. following Friday and Saturday nights.

The principals indicated on the application that they intend to be open during those hours, though the current county COVID-19 restrictions will apply.

The terms of the license also allow the operators to request catering privileges to be able to provide alcohol, with food, at an event.

A virtual hearing on the application is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7.

The Source has contacted one of the partners, asking for more information and will update this article as warranted.
