Silver Spring Man Charged with Vehicle Theft, Burglary

A Silver Spring man has been arrested and charged with vehicle theft and second-degree burglary, the county police department announced.

Daniel Tesfamihret, age 37, of Braddock Road in Silver Spring, was found driving a vehicle stolen in Connecticut that was reported to the county’s Emergency Communications Center by a vehicle locator service.

The service reported the location as a structure in the area of Fenton Street and Thayer Avenue in downtown Silver Spring. Officers from the 3rd District located Tesfamihret in the stolen vehicle in a parking garage at 900 Thayer Ave.

“In the stolen vehicle, officers located bolt cutters and a box whose addressee was a local storage facility that had been burglarized on January 12,” according to a press release. “Investigators reviewed surveillance video from that storage facility and observed a suspect matching Tesfamihret arrive at the business in a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle.

“Officers also charged Tesfamihret with second-degree burglary after he was found to be in possession of stolen packages from a recently reported burglary,” the release continued. “At this time of his arrest, Tesfamihret also was wanted for burglarizing the Self Storage Plus located on New Hampshire Avenue in White Oak on December 29, 2019.”

In addition, Tesfamihret was charged with possession of burglary tools and is being held without bond in the county’s Central Processing Unit.
