A preliminary plan application has been submitted to the Montgomery County Planning Board for a 173-room hotel with about 4,200 square feet of ground-level retail at 8600 Georgia Ave., the corner of Georgia and Colesville Road currently occupied by a gas station.

The hotel would include about 5,000 square feet of meeting space, dining and stand 130 feet tall, within the 145 feet allowed in that zone.

One potential sticking point might be that plans call for just 28 underground parking spaces on the site, though since the site is within the Silver Spring Parking District, the documents note that no parking is required.

The owner/applicant is listed as Starr Georgia LLC in Bethesda. A Google search turned up no information about this group. The listed contact, Timothy Eden, is managing director of Starr Capital, also based in the Bethesda though at a different listed address.

The civil engineer/landscape architect firm is VIKA Maryland LLC of Germantown and BBGM of Washington, D.C. are the architects.

More information will follow as the plan goes through the approval process, which will include a public hearing before the Planning Board.
