County detectives with the Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged four men in connection with a series of thefts and robberies of 7-Elevens and a gas station in Montgomery County.
Those charged are (list quoted from a press release):
- Joseph A. Crenshaw, age 57, of the 1700 block of Capital Avenue in Northeast, Washington, D.C. Crenshaw was charged with theft
- Emanuel Harried, age 26, of the 1900 block of West Virginia Avenue in Northeast, Washington, D.C. Harried was charged with attempted theft
- Willie O. McKinnon, age 55, of the 2100 block of Alice Avenue in Oxon Hill. McKinnon was charged with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of first-degree assault, and
- Prince J. Singletary, age 35, of the 4200 block of Foote Street in Northeast, Washington, D.C. Singletary was charged with armed robbery and assault-related offenses.
The suspects stole large amounts of cigarettes and lottery tickets, according to police.
Two of the incidents took place in Silver Spring. In one case, two suspects stole lottery tickets, cigarettes, and currency on Jan. 24 from the 7-Eleven located at 650 University Blvd. E.
While investigating a Jan. 26 incident that occurred in Kensington, police were able to obtain a fingerprint from a cashed stolen lottery tickets that testing showed matched McKinnon, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The second Silver Spring incident happened four days later, on Jan. 30. Two suspects stole large quantities of cigarettes and lottery tickets from the 7-Eleven at 7980 Georgia Ave.
“Officers in the area of the 7-Eleven observed the suspects’ vehicle and followed them to the gas station in Landover where the previous stolen lottery tickets had been cashed,” according to the press release. “Officers arrested the three suspects and identified the driver of the car as Harried.”
The other two suspects were identified as McKinnon and Crenshaw; officers recovered lottery tickets and cigarettes from the car.
McKinnon is being held without bond. Harried and Crenshaw were released after posting bonds of $2,500 and $1,000, respectively.
On Feb. 16, Singletary was arrested on a Montgomery County arrest warrant and is being held without bond, the department said.
The four men are considered suspects in six other incidents, four that occurred in Kensington and one each in Rockville and Gaithersburg.
