Corner Market Closes Pharmacy Section of the Business

The pharmacy section of the Corner Market & Pharmacy in the Rock Creek Shopping Center at 8309 Grubb Rd. has closed, according to a social media report confirmed by the Source.

A message posted in the store tells customers that all prescriptions have been transferred to the CVS store in the Blair Park Shopping Center; for convenience, the “pharmacy” choice on Corner Market’s voicemail tree automatically transfers callers to the CVS.

The message points to the “changing pharmacy landscape” as the reason for the closure. “The landscape battle includes: the increasingly tougher environment which includes the entry of Amazon into the pharmacy business, decreased and delayed reimbursements from insurance companies and their benefit managers, several break-ins (which resulted in an incredible amount of stress, repair costs, and increased insurance costs), and the ever increasing business squeeze of the chain stores,” the sign reads.

The market and the Scoop Shop offering ice cream, snow cones and more remain in operation.

The pharmacy’s last day was Feb. 16.
