Police Report Arrest of Virginia Man in Two Attempted Carjackings

The county police department reports that detectives from the Major Crimes Division have arrested a Virginia man for two attempted carjackings in downtown Silver Spring.

Michael Danso, 38, of Woodbridge was charged in connection with the incidents, which occurred on March 23.

In the first case, a female victim reported an attempt at about 8:55 p.m. that day.

“The adult female victim stated that she had parked her car in the area of Ripley Street and Dixon Avenue and was exiting her vehicle when the suspect approached her,” according to a press release. “The suspect assaulted the victim, stole her car keys, and attempted to enter the victim’s vehicle. The victim struggled with the suspect, regained her car keys, and drove from the area.”

The woman then called police and provided the responding officers with a description of the suspect.

Shortly afterward, police received a call about an assault in progress in the same area; the description the caller provided matched the description in the first incident.

Officer from the 3rd District responded and found the suspect, who was identified as Danso.

“Danso approached the victim, a delivery driver and demanded a ride,” the release said. “The victim refused, and the suspect assaulted the victim and attempted to carjack his vehicle.”

Danso was arrested and during questioning admitted to being involved in both incidents. He is being held without bond on two counts of attempted carjacking and second-degree assault.
