Police Release Video of Assault with Handgun, Seek Info About Suspects

The county police department has released a video of an assault with a handgun in downtown Silver Spring and is asking for information about two suspects.

Detectives from the 3rd District are investigating the incident, which happened in the 900 block of Ellsworth Drive on Jan. 16 at about 2:25 p.m. following a traffic dispute.

“The investigation has determined that the male juvenile victim was skateboarding with friends when he became involved in a verbal dispute with a passing motorist,” according to a press release. “The motorist stopped and exited her vehicle, and the two began arguing in the street. A crowd began to form.”

Two female suspects were walking on Ellsworth at the time and one of them got involved in the dispute.

“The second female suspect went to a red Volvo that was parked in the area and drove it close to the dispute,” the release continued. “She then gave a handgun to the first suspect, who used it to threaten the victim. Witnesses captured the incident on their cell phones.”

Anyone with information about the assault can call 240.773.6870. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1.866.411.TIPS (8477), or submit the information online or via the app.
