Polka Deli Featured in ‘Made In Montgomery’ Series

Taste of Home Magazine’s “Best Deli in Maryland” winner Polka Deli is featured in the latest episode of the Made In Montgomery series from the County Council and County Cable Montgomery.

Councilmember Will Jawando (D-At Large) visited the deli, located in Colesville Center at 13438 New Hampshire Ave., in the Made In Montgomery episode to ask the owners about their “Best Deli in Maryland” honors.

“Someone else tagged us in the article on Facebook, and that’s how we found out,” said co-owner Maria Stanislawek of the Taste of Home Magazine feature, which took them by surprise. “We had no idea…and people started to pour in through the doors.”

We originally reported in February that Polka Deli had been selected as the Best Deli in Maryland by the magazine’s Field Editors and readers:

Opened in 2018, Polka Deli has become a favorite stop for Polish meats, food and groceries. Find smoked fish, sausages, sauerkraut and deli meats like Polish ham and headcheese. Their homemade selections include sandwiches and pierogi filled with pork or potato, onion and cheese.

According to Taste of Home, they “found the best deli in every state, based on reviews and hat tips from our Field Editors. Here’s where to go for deli meats, cheeses and of course, sandwiches!”

When asked by Councilmember Jawando why they think they’ve been so successful in Montgomery County, “I think it’s because of the mixture of people…people are willing to try new things,” Stanislawek said.

“We’re glad you’re here! We are Maria and Joanna, Polish natives, friends, and good cooks,” Polka Deli’s website reads. “The love of cooking and Polish food lead us here and we decided we needed to open a one-stop shop for Polish groceries and most beloved Polish dishes, on the go.”

The deli’s menu, which features pierogies, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, and more, is available for delivery via Uber Eats.
