UPDATE 4/30: The opening has been delayed to May 8.
The Shell Shack Seafood will be relocating to Silver Spring, according to a post on the outlet’s Instagram account.
The Caribbean-infused seafood truck will be located near Millennium Salon at 920 Gist Avenue in the South Silver Spring neighborhood, opening on Saturday, May 1 at 12 p.m. The truck is relocating from the Savor Food Hall in Brentwood, which changed ownership and concept last year.
“🗣ATTENTION PLEASE! ATTENTION PLEASE! Our mobile restaurant opens next Saturday, May 1st at NOON! 🙌🏾,” the Instagram post reads. “We cannot wait! Join us on the patio and just Eat.Chill.Repeat!”
According to the food truck’s website, “The Shell Shack Seafood is a Caribbean-infused seafood bar in the Washington, DC metro area where you can just Eat. Chill. Repeat. We are proud to serve unique and tasty gourmet seafood dishes that have the exceptional flair of the islands.”
In addition to Lobster Sliders, Blackened Salmon, and the popular Milk River Rasta Pasta, Chef-Owner Winthorpe “Skee” Spence also offers 5-course tasting menus that start at $95. Chef Spence has served as a private chef for BET co-founder Shiela Johnson, Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor and others:
Chef Winthorpe “Skee” Spence is a native of the beautiful island of Jamaica. His interest in cooking began at the tender age of six while watching his mother prepare cultural gourmet meals. Chef Spence and his family migrated to Queens, NY, where he grew up and decided to pursue his passion for cooking. He enrolled and later graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1991. His professional career as a chef placed him in the kitchens of several 5-star restaurants in New York and Washington, DC. Chef Spence co-owned and operated a fine dining restaurant on the East side of New York City until he decided to pursue his passion for selling upscale street food in his food truck, “Fork in the Road NYC.”
Chef Spence returned to the DC metro area, where he has worked as a private chef for Sheila Johnson, Owner of BET, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and other notable clients. He currently owns and operates Sunsplash Catering, where he offers his clients an upscale dining experience in every bite.
