Polka Deli Featured in Washingtonian’s “13 Great DC Delis From Around the World”

Taste of Home Magazine’s “Best Deli in Maryland” winner Polka Deli is featured in Washingtonian’s article, “13 Great DC Delis From Around the World,” a list of notable international delis around the D.C. area:

New York has countless hero shops, Montreal is famed for its bagels and smoked meat, but DC? Not your typical deli town. As with many of our culinary ways, our deli scene is notable more for its diversity than its depth. That means you’ll find a wealth of possibilities from all over the globe. Here, our favorite places for a sandwich or quick bite.

The article notes Polka Deli’s counter and takeout selections, including kielbasa, pączki, made-to-order sandwiches, pierogi, and more.

Earlier this year, the deli was featured in an episode of the Made In Montgomery series from the County Council and County Cable Montgomery.

Councilmember Will Jawando (D-At Large) visited the deli, located in Colesville Center at 13438 New Hampshire Ave., in the Made In Montgomery episode to ask the owners about their “Best Deli in Maryland” honors.

“Someone else tagged us in the article on Facebook, and that’s how we found out,” said co-owner Maria Stanislawek of the Taste of Home Magazine feature, which took them by surprise. “We had no idea…and people started to pour in through the doors.”

When asked by Councilmember Jawando why they think they’ve been so successful in Montgomery County, “I think it’s because of the mixture of people…people are willing to try new things,” Stanislawek said.

“We’re glad you’re here! We are Maria and Joanna, Polish natives, friends, and good cooks,” Polka Deli’s website reads. “The love of cooking and Polish food lead us here and we decided we needed to open a one-stop shop for Polish groceries and most beloved Polish dishes, on the go.”
