Wider Circle Board Names Javaid New President & CEO

A Wider Circle’s board of directors has appointed Amy S. Javaid as the Silver Spring nonprofit’s new president & CEO, according to an announcement on the organization’s website.

Javaid has 20 years of experience in nonprofit work, including working in workforce development, reproductive health, and HIV/AIDS prevention.

A volunteer with A Wider Circle for a number of years, Javaid joined the organization’s staff in 2017, serving as senior vice president and heading the Families First DC project, among other work.

Javaid was named A Wider Circle’s interim president & CEO in January after the departure of founder Dr. Mark Bergel, who continues to serve on A Wider Circle’s board of directors. Following a national search, the board unanimously voted to remove the interim title.

“After reviewing hundreds of candidates and meeting with many highly-qualified individuals, Amy was the clear choice for the role,” Marty Durbin, A Wider Circle’s board chair, said in the anouncement. “She has done a tremendous job leading A Wider Circle in her interim role, and we know that she will keep providing strong and effective leadership as we continue to pursue our mission.”

“I am humbled and honored by the board’s confidence in me,” said Javaid, “and I am truly eager to continue working alongside our incredible staff, clients, partners, volunteers, and donors to execute on our grand vision of eliminating poverty.”

A Wider Circle’s headquarters, currently undergoing renovation, is located at 9159 Brookville Rd. in Silver Spring and operates a hub in Ward 8 at 400-A Atlantic Street, S.E. in Washington.
