Massachusetts Company Buys Sheraton Silver Spring, Will Rebrand Property

A Massachusetts company, Linchris Hotel Corp., has purchased the Sheraton Silver Spring at 8777 Georgia Ave. and is temporarily operating the hotel under the name of Hotel Silver Spring.

The hotel features the Mica Restaurant & Lounge, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, a full-service Starbucks, and 15,000 square feet of meeting space.

Linchris intends to invest about $8 million in improvements to the property, according to John Argonish, the company’s senior vice president of sales and marketing.

In addition to painting the exterior, now underway, the improvements will include upgrading the mechanical and HVAC systems, converting to digital check-ins and door locks, renovating then completely replacing all the equipment in the fitness center, redo all pool and common areas, add technology upgrades and a grab-and-go convenience center.

The elevators will be modernized and all the guest rooms renovated by this time next year, Argonish said.

Linchris also will rebrand and manage the property as a Doubletree by Hilton, despite a Doubletree being located on Colesville Road that announced it would reopen under Hilton management on Aug. 1.

Argonish couldn’t speak to the seeming duplication other than to say that his company has been a Hilton partner, and that the company is fully aware of, and agreed to, the Linchris rebranding.

Linchris, based in Plymouth, Mass., is a hotel investment and management firm founded in 1985. The company currently operates 29 properties, with more than 4,650 rooms, under several brand names in 12 states.
