Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged two teenaged males from Washington D.C. with two recent carjackings in Silver Spring and Takoma Park.
The first happened in the early hours of Friday, Aug. 27 in the 800 block of Wayne Avenue.
“The two adult victims stated they were walking to their vehicle when they were approached by three suspects,” according to a press release. “The victims were about to enter their vehicle when one of the suspects pointed a gun with a red laser at them. While at gunpoint, the suspects demanded property and the car key to the vehicle.”
A second report of an armed carjacking came in shortly after the Silver Spring incident and Takoma Park police responded to the 7700 block of Maple Avenue.
“The victim stated he was approached by a suspect who pointed a gun with a red laser at his head. While at gunpoint, the suspect demanded property and the victim’s car key,” the release reads. “The suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and was then joined by a second suspect. Both suspects fled from the scene in the victim’s vehicle.”
About two hours later on the 27th, county police received word from another agency of a armed robbery that had just happened.
“The suspects for the armed robbery arrived in the two vehicles carjacked approximately one hour previously in Montgomery County,” according to police.
During the investigation, detectives were able to identify two suspects, 16-year-old Jahmius Brown and a 15-year-old suspect whose name was not released.
On August 30 at approximately 10:30 p.m., 2nd District Special Assignment Team officers found one of the stolen vehicles in Silver Spring. Brown and the juvenile were found in the car, as was a handgun that the victims identified as the one used in the crime.
Both suspects were charged with the two armed carjackings.
