The Angry Jerk, which features “authentic Caribbean cuisine,” has been featured by Eater D.C. as one of The 15 Hottest New Restaurants Around D.C. in September:
This Caribbean carryout in Silver Spring sells tacos and bowls that show off charcoal roasted jerk chicken, jerk shrimp, and shredded oxtails. Owner Jason Miskiri enlists his Guyanese mother to make roti for curry chicken, and snapper is available jerked or fried. Sauces come in flavors like jerk mumbo, pepper, and “hot angry.”
The restaurant opened in July at the former location of The Big Greek Café at 8223 Georgia Ave. in downtown Silver Spring. The Big Greek Café moved down the street to the former home of Fat Fingers at 8213 Georgia Ave. last summer.
The menu features jerk chicken, curry chicken, and brown stew chicken with roasted carrots and gravy, along with jerk salmon as well as jerk or fried snapper.
Sides include several types of rice dishes and slaws, plantains, yucca, mac and cheese, and roti doe.
Jason Miskiri, a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School and founder of The Society Restaurant and Lounge on Georgia Avenue, owns the restaurant.
“We are excited to be in the Silver Spring community,” Miskiri said in an email to the Source in July. “It is our mission to provide quality food options for the community.”
