Zinnia will open its doors on Friday, October 1, the restaurant announced on its Instagram account last evening.
The new restaurant from Takoma Bev. Co. owner Chris Brown will open at the former location of Mrs. K’s Toll House at the intersection of Colesville Road and Dale Drive in Silver Spring. Mrs. K’s closed and was offered for lease last year, after marking 90 years in business.
“We are so excited to introduce everyone to Zinnia!,” the Instagram post reads. “After a long wait, we would like to announce our Grand Opening date of October 1st. Reservations will go live soon and can be booked through our website or at Resy.com. Hope to see you all soon!”
Washington City Paper’s Nevin Martell reported in March that Takoma Bev Co. owner Chris Brown signed a 20-year lease for Mrs. K’s Restaurant and Barrel Bar.
Mr. Brown said to the Source in July that the menu will be elevated pub fare, and some will be based on recipes from Mrs. K’s. “We’re actually going to bring in some of those ingredients and recipes into the food,” Mr. Brown said.
“I think we’re going to be able to take the traditional kind of food that would go great with a beer or a glass of wine and kind of elevate to a level back when Mrs. K’s was high-end dining for the D.C. area,” Mr. Brown said, “[and] have that kind of balance where you can come in, have that kind of that cool vintage feel, elevated fare, but have that relaxed garden experience.”
