Three Arrested, Charged in Silver Spring Auto Theft

Officers from the Montgomery County Police Department’s Central Business District Team have arrested and charged three juveniles with auto theft, possession of a firearm, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance on September 27 in Silver Spring.

“On Monday, September 27, at approximately 5:45 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the 900 block of Silver Spring Ave. for the report of three suspects attempting to steal vehicles,” reads an MCPD press release. “A description of the suspects and their vehicle was provided to responding officers. It was determined that the suspect’s vehicle had been reported as stolen in Washington, D.C.

“Officers from the Central Business District Team observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle in the area of Sligo Ave. and Georgia Ave. Upon seeing the police, the suspects attempted to flee in their vehicle and struck a police vehicle, but officers quickly surrounded the vehicle and took the suspects into custody.

“The suspects were identified as juveniles who reside in Washington D.C. A search of the car revealed a loaded Springfield XD 9mm firearm and controlled dangerous substances.

“The suspects were arrested and transported to the 3rd District Station. At the police station, the suspects were charged with auto theft, possession of a firearm, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Two of the suspects were released from the station to their parents. The other suspect had an active arrest warrant and was transported to Alfred D. Noyes Children’s Detention Center in Rockville.”
