County Seeking Applicants for Urban District Advisory Committee

The county executive is looking for applicants to fill eight positions on the Silver Spring Urban District Advisory Committee, according to an announcement from Regional Service Center Director Jacob Newman.

The 11-member committee includes for three representatives of option method developers, two representatives of residential communities in the urban district, and three representatives that employ fewer than 25 employees.

Four incumbent members—two optional method developers, one resident and one small business representative—are eligible to apply for reappointment.

Members provide information and advice to the county government and the director of the Silver Spring Regional Services Center regarding promotions, maintenance, service levels, and budgetary guidance for the urban district.

They serve three-year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for in-person meetings attended. Currently, the committee meets virtually at 3 p.m. every third Thursday of the month.

The appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council and, once appointed, members must complete training on the Maryland Open Meetings Act and basic parliamentary procedure.

More information and an application form are online. Applications are forwarded to the council for confirmation and may be made public as part of the confirmation process. The application deadline is Oct. 18.
