Zed’s Café Temporarily Closed: “We Are Currently Short-Staffed”

Zed’s Café in downtown Silver Spring is temporarily closed, according to signs posted at the storefront.

The signs cited staffing issues as the reason for the cafe’s closure at 8225 Georgia Ave. Zed’s Café is owned by Zed Mekonnen, who also owns Silver Strings at 8630 Colesville Rd.

“Zed’s Café has been a fixture in downtown Silver Spring for 10 years,” the sign reads. “The café has indoor seating for 25 people and an outdoor garden space that seats 25. We are looking for a motivated individual to manage the day-to-day operations. This includes managing inventory and personnel, maintaining the menu, working behind the counter, and cultivating the friendly, warm, and inviting atmosphere that keeps our community regulars coming back again and again. Our ideal candidate will have fresh ideas for food and drink specials, entertainment opportunities, and marketing strategies to reward our existing customers and attract new regulars. We are looking for someone who shares our belief that the space is unique and special and has limitless potential.

“If you or anyone you know is interested in the position, please send your resume to [email protected] or call 301-587-0596 after 4:00 PM and ask to speak to the hiring manager.”
