Zinnia’s Holiday Market Featured in Washingtonian

Zinnia’s first annual Holiday Pop-Up and Gift Market is featured in Washingtonian’s roundup of D.C. Area Winter Bars and Restaurants:

Silver Spring’s new restaurant and garden—which takes over the historic Mr. K’s Tollhouse space—is ready for winter. A holiday market runs every Friday through Sunday leading up to Christmas with crafts, warm drinks, and more. Patrons can make reservations in the extensive gardens at heated patio picnic tables or around fire pits, with warming eats like crab dip and braised short rib sliders.

“We will have a local artisans craft market for your holiday gift-giving, s’more making kits, ornament decorating for the kids, warm beverages and tons of holiday cheer,” said Justin Kaplan-Markley, Zinnia’s Director of Operations, in an email to the Source earlier this month.

Takoma Bev Co. owner Chris Brown opened Zinnia on October 1 at the former location of Mrs. K’s Toll House at the intersection of Colesville Road and Dale Drive in Silver Spring. Mrs. K’s closed and was offered for lease last year, after marking 90 years in business.

“I think we’re going to be able to take the traditional kind of food that would go great with a beer or a glass of wine and kind of elevate to a level back when Mrs. K’s was high-end dining for the D.C. area,” Mr. Brown said to the Source last July, “[and] have that kind of balance where you can come in, have that kind of that cool vintage feel, elevated fare, but have that relaxed garden experience.”
