Pollo Campero has closed its location at 8662 Colesville Rd. in downtown Silver Spring. According to workers clearing out the restaurant this morning, Monday was the restaurant’s last operating day.
The downtown Silver Spring location opened in 2017. Juan José Gutierrez, who’s still involved in the family-owned business, opened the company’s first store in Guatemala in 1971. The initial U.S. store opened in Los Angeles in 2002. There are now more than 70 Pollo Campero outlets in the United States, and nearly 400 around the world.
The company has six other Maryland locations — Frederick, Laurel, Hyattsville, Takoma Park, Wheaton and Gaithersburg.
