Ruan Thai is One of Eater’s “15 Standout Thai Restaurants Around D.C.”

The quality and diversity of the area’s restaurant scene continues to garner attention and accolades from local and national media.

Ruan Thai in Wheaton has been named by Eater as one of its “15 Standout Thai Restaurants Around D.C.“:

Wheaton is one of the best neighborhoods around D.C. for Thai food, and Ruan Thai is one of the reasons. Here fried watercress appears alongside shrimp, squid, and cashews and spicy lime dressing. The restaurant has limited dine-in service (no reservations); takeout is available here.

The restaurant, a Source reader favorite, was also recently praised by Bon Appetit Magazine’s Amiel Stanek, also for its fried watercress:

Fried dishes are especially standout at this 24-year-old Wheaton, MD, institution. Start with the Yum Watercress, tangles of battered greens tossed with crispy bits of seafood and handfuls of herbs. You’d be wise to center a meal around the whole fried flounder bathed in Thai-basil-perfumed lard prik sauce, with plenty of sticky rice on the side for scooping.

In a live chat last March, Washingtonian Magazine’s Ann Limpert named Ruan Thai and nearby Thai Taste by Kob her favorite Wheaton Thai restaurants.
