Pedestrian Killed in Hillandale Monday Evening, Police Say

Montgomery County Police say a 70-year-old Adelphi man was struck and killed by a motorist Monday evening in the Hillandale neighborhood of Silver Spring.

“Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred yesterday, January 17, 2022 at the intersection of New Hampshire Ave. and Elton Rd. in Silver Spring,” reads an MCPD news release.

“At approximately 5:38 p.m., 3rd District Officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a grey 2014 Toyota Camry.

“The investigation by detectives has determined that the driver of the vehicle was traveling southbound on New Hampshire Ave., approaching Elton Rd., when he collided with the pedestrian who was crossing southbound New Hampshire Ave. from east to west. The driver of the Toyota remained on the scene.

“The pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries. Despite lifesaving attempts from Montgomery County Fire Rescue, the pedestrian was declared deceased on the scene. The decedent was identified as a 70-year-old male from Adelphi.

“The Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this collision. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact CRU detectives at 240-773-6620.”

Bethesda Beat reports that the crash happened in the same area where a pedestrian was struck and killed in January of last year.
