Amazon will open a brick-and-mortar grocery store in White Oak, according to a report in the Washington Business Journal.
Writer Daniel J. Sernovitz, citing a “source with direct knowledge of the situation but was not authorized to comment on the record,” said a deal has been struck to go into the White Oak Town Center planned for the corner of Prosperity Drive and Industrial Parkway.
“A representative for BDC Spectrum II LLC, an affiliate of Bethesda’s Finmarc Management Inc., said a grocer is still on the books for the project but declined to confirm or deny whether that will be an Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market or other Amazon-branded market,” Sernovitz continued.
The report also noted that the developer had modified its plans with the Planning Department to expand a grocery for the mixed-use development from about 16,000 square feet, the size of a typical Trader Joe’s, to about 40,000 feet. The modified plan also showed white-and-green lettering and the type of architecture associated with the Amazon Fresh brand.
