Underground Pizza Company is now open in downtown Silver Spring with limited weekend hours, according to a post on the restaurant’s Instagram account.
Bethesda Beat reported earlier this week that the shop would be open for takeout beginning Saturday, a day later than the original estimate of Friday, February 18. “We’re just gonna do Saturday and Sunday, and then we’re gonna do some limited weekends through the month, and then open with regular hours. We’re just taking our time,” owner Evan Weinstein said to Bethesda Beat.
Underground Pizza Company is located in the former home of Olazzo at 8235 Georgia Ave. in downtown Silver Spring. Olazzo closed in May of 2021, ending a 15-year run in downtown Silver Spring. UPC announced that they were taking over the space last October.
Takeout orders can be placed online via UPC’s website.
Underground Pizza Company is the latest opening in a growing list of recent and upcoming restaurant openings in Silver Spring, including Tacosway Mexican Grill, Valenciana Wine Garden, Guavaberry Dominican Restaurant, Flip’d by IHOP, The Breakfast Club, Firepan Korean BBQ, J. Hollinger’s, Dog Haus Biergarten, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Black Lion Café, Willie T’s Seafood Shack/Be Right Burger, Kusshi Ko, Miss Toya’s Creole House, and the Commas food hall at Ellsworth Place.
