Lot on Silver Spring Avenue to Become Public Parking Space Next Month

A space adjoining the Fenton Street garage and fronting on Silver Spring Avenue will become a public parking lot operated by the county on or about March 1, according to Department of Transportation officials.

The property was a gift to the county by the developer that owned it, but no longer had any need for it, according to José Thommana, DOT’s chief of parking.

The cost will be $1.25 per hour, the same as other county lots in Silver Spring. The hours requiring payment also will be the same, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Customers will only be able to pay at the new lot with the Parkmobile app on a phone using a pre-funded “wallet” or a pay as you go option.
