Upcoming Downtown Silver Spring restaurant Miss Toya’s Creole House will offer seating for 150 and an outdoor patio, according to Washingtonian Magazine’s Spring & Summer Restaurant Preview.
Miss Toya’s will also have “rum cocktails, jambalaya, and buttery crab claws” on its menu, according to the article, titled “Spring/Summer Restaurant Preview: 34 New and Forthcoming Spots We’re Excited About”.
Also featured in the article is newcomer San Pancho in Takoma Park, along with Zinnia in Silver Spring, which will add a café to its slate of offerings.
We reported last September that Jeffeary Miskiri, who founded Miskiri Hospitality Group in 2021, will be opening Miss Toya’s Creole House in the space formerly occupied by Eggspectation at 923 Ellsworth Drive in the Downtown Silver Spring development.
Miskiri, raised in Takoma Park and a Montgomery Blair High School graduate, has 10 years of experience in the restaurant business, spending seven years working in family restaurants and running a catering service. He opened Po Boy Jim Bar & Grill, his first brick-and-mortar operation, on H Street NE in Washington.
“I went from being a chef to being a restaurateur, on to being the founder of my own hospitality group,” he said to the Source last year.
“Miss Toya’s is the sister restaurant to my full-service restaurant, Creole on 14th [in Washington], the reason behind it being to expand on Creole and Cajun food,” Miskiri said. “The diversity and the body of language that that cuisine presents is so large that I knew that I could something similar, but totally different at the same time.”
In addition to the rum cocktails and crab claws, Miskiri said he will also include items with a twist, such as jambalaya fettucine pastas and a variety of other offerings from his portfolio of dishes.
“This might be my most exciting project,” he said to the Source last September. “I say that a lot, but seeing that I’m actually coming back home where I grew up. . .I know everything about downtown Silver Spring. I’m just really excited to bring that Cajun-Creole flair and twist to the neighborhood.”
Miss Toya’s Creole House is among a growing list of upcoming restaurant openings in Silver Spring, including Firepan Korean BBQ, J. Hollinger’s, Kusshi Ko, Bonchon, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Tacosway Mexican Grill, Valenciana Wine Garden, Flip’d by IHOP, The Breakfast Club, Dunkin/Baskin-Robbins, Black Lion Café, Willie T’s Seafood Shack/Be Right Burger, and the Commas food hall at Ellsworth Place.
